Our walking recommendations

Dorf Tirol is the perfect location for mountain excursions
...and hiking tours: 70 km of marked hiking trails invite you to explore the unspoiled nature, the beautiful orchards and vineyards, green alpine meadows, romantic mountain huts, clear lakes and snow-covered mountains.

Tiroler Kreuz - Farmerkreuz -Earth Pyramids - Tirol Castle

At the bus station in the village centre we follow the sign towards the Örtlerhof farm. We take the path that starts on the left hand side and we follow the route through the orchards to the Seminarstraße. We follow the road right; after the Wetzelhof farm we turn right into a forestry path which takes us to Auer Castle. We pass the castle and we follow the signs until we reach the Tiroler Kreuz. Now we proceed left on the Keep-fit-trail until we reach the asphalted road in front of the Restaurant Farmerkreuz. We follow the signs Tirol Castle - St. Peter and we enjoy the beautiful view on Meran, Tirol Castle and Brunnenburg Castle. On the front side of the Außerfarmerhof farm we descend on steep concrete stairs, first across a beautiful chestnut forest and afterwards through an oak- and pine forest to the Earth pyramids. After a few steep bends we reach the Schlossweg path, we pass Tirol Castle and we come back to the village centre.

Dorf Tirol - Leiter Alp - Vellau - Dorf Tirol

Dorf Tirol Hotels bei Meran Südtirol

The guest bus takes us to the Tiroler Kreuz 806 m (or by feet: see hiking tour nr. 3), then we follow the path nr. 23, the Muterweg, we pass the Talbauer farm until we reach the Hochmuther at an altitude of 1361 m (you may shorten this route by taking the cable railway). After a short ascent we arrive to the Gasthof Steinegg at 1410 m; here, we take the Hans Frieden Weg nr. 24 on the left hand side which offers us a beautiful view on the entire valley and the surrounding alpine world and takes us to the Leiter Alp at 1522 m. This section of the Meraner Höhenweg is almost flat apart from the last 10 minutes before reaching the Leiter Alp, where we walk upwards through the forest.
We leave the Leiter Alp 1522 m behind us and we continue our way downwards. Just before the lift, on the left hand side we walk downwards on a steep path through a beautiful forest of conifers and deciduous trees and we follow the signs towards Vellau. Soon we reach the first meadows as well as the Jausenstation Oberplatzer (restaurant) at 1302 m with a beautiful terrace offering a spectacular view on the Vinschgau Valley and on the Etschtal Valley. Underneath the restaurant we follow the asphalted path till the first bend and we take the path nr. 26 towards Kienegger-Vellau. This hiking trail meanders downwards, past the Gasthof Kienegger and takes us to the church of Vellau at 952 m. Right behind the church, below the Gasthof Oberlechner, the hiking trail nr. 26 takes us to St. Peter. Just before reaching Tirol Castle, we arrive to the roadway and we walk on the Schlossweg, a beautiful panoramic path offering an amazing view on the Etschtal Valley as well as on the vineyards and orchards of Dorf Tirol. We pass Tirol Castle and we come back to our starting point.

Mutspitze

The guest bus takes us from the village centre to the Tiroler Kreuz 806 m (or by feet: see hiking tour nr. 3), then we follow the path nr. 23, the old Muterweg, in continuous ascent through the forest or on the new roadway to the "Untere Muthöfe". After admiring the beautiful view on the Vinschgau Valley and on the Etschtal Valley, we turn right into the path nr. 23 which takes us to the Mutkopf. We follow this path first across alpine meadows, then through a forest and afterwards in a steep ascent to the Gasthof Mutkopf 1684 m. After a short break, we continue our way upwards until we nearly reach the Mutspitze. For the last metres, the trail heads up through large boulders to the peak. Now we enjoy the beautiful view on Dorf Tirol, the Burggrafenamt area and the Ortler group. This tour is especially beautiful in early summer at the flowering season of the alpine roses when the peaks of the surrounding mountain ranges are sparkling in the sun. The descent takes us once again downwards to the Mutkopf; here we proceed on the less steep path nr. 22 through the forest to the Gasthof Steinegg and further on to the Hochmuther. Descent by cable railway or by feet following the Talbauer signs nr. 24 and the Muterweg back to the Tiroler Kreuz or the steeper way down to the Farmer Kreuz.

Spronser lakes

Wandern in den Dorf Tirol Hotels bei Meran Südtirol

The guest bus takes us from the village centre to the Tiroler Kreuz 806 m, then we follow the path nr. 23, the Muterweg, past the Talbauer to the Hochmuther 1361 m (take the cable railway to shorten this part of the itinerary). After another short ascent we reach the Gasthof Steinegg 1410 m; on the left hand side the Hans Frieden Weg nr. 24 offers us a magnificent panoramic view on the entire valley and leads us to the Leiter Alp 1522 m. This section of the Meraner Höhenweg is almost flat apart from the last 10 minutes before reaching the Leiter Alp, where we walk uphill through the forest.
Past the Leiter Alp 1522 m, we follow the path nr. 24 westwards and we pass under a wooden sign with the name "Meraner Höhenweg" on it. On an initially steep stone slab path we proceed towards the Hochganghaus. After about 20 minutes we reach the junction Kuhalm and Taufenscharte; we remain on the path nr. 24 and after crossing two small mountain streams we arrive to the Hochganghaus at an altitude of 1839 m. After a short break with beautiful view on the rock faces of the Texelgruppe we proceed on the steep trail nr. 7 directly towards the rock slopes. In the upper section, the trail is a little bit exposed, but it leads over stone slabs which are secured with steel ropes. >From time to time you should take a moment to enjoy the beautiful view on the Vinschgau and on the Etschtal Valley, on the glaciers of the Ortler group as well as on the Dolomites and the Brenta group in the South. After a rather demanding ascent we reach the Hochgangscharte 2441 m and we look over a high-alpine landscape with the biggest lake of the Spronser lake group, the Langsee (1014 m long und approx. 35 m deep). On the left hand side we see the Tschigat 2998 m and on the right hand side the Rötelspitze. Now we continue slightly downhill on the trail nr. 7 (left) above the lake and after about 20 minutes we reach a junction with the path to the Milchseescharte. Our path nr. 22 leads downhill to the lake and we follow its shore until a small wooden bridge. Just a few metres downwards we catch sight of the Grünsee, surrounded by high rock faces. We turn right and we follow a steep stone slab path nr. 6 which takes us to the Oberkaser Alp 2131 m with nice view on the Kaser- and on the Pfitscher Lacke where a beautiful waterfall pours out. After a rest we walk down to the lake, we cross a small wooden bridge on the right and we continue our way on the trail nr. 25. After about 30 minutes we reach a junction at a noticeable big rock. We follow the Jägersteig (Muthöfe) which is a little bit exposed but in quite good condition. The trail goes gently up and down and offers a magnificent panoramic view on the Ifinger and on the Hirzerspitze. After approx. 1 hour we arrive to the junction with the path to the Mutspitze. We continue uphill to the Mutkopfhütte 1684 m. There, the path is getting less intense and we walk for about 45 minutes to the Gasthof Steinegg and further on to the Hochmuther. Descent by cable railway or by feet along the Muterweg to the Tiroler Kreuz.
